Wrapping Around Small Forms

You can also describe small forms, such as a boot wrapping around an ankle or a glove wrapping around fingers.

SHOWING ACTION AND ATTITUDE

Stretch and compression folds show action and enhance attitude. You’ll find these in all but the most static gestures. The more flexible and active a gesture, the more stretch and compression folds you’ll see. These folds usually curve, and the curves indicate the directions of the forms of the body beneath.

Stretch Folds

Stretch folds occur when tension between parts of the body causes a corresponding tension in clothing. Whenever a body stretches or twists, the clothing immediately over it also stretches. How visible the stretch fold is depends on the degree of the body’s stretch and the style, fabric and fit of the clothing. Stretch folds fan out and curve as they progress from one point of tension to another.
